Online Privacy & Surveillance

As the world delves deeper into its involvement with modern and digital technology, an influx of privacy topics have surfaced. Many people have realized that along with their newfound technologies, newfound surveillance methods have come about as well. In fact, almost everything someone does online is monitored, stored, and shared with other people and companies across the world. Nothing someone does on the internet, or with the help of technology, goes untraced. Additionally, not only is the internet causing privacy lockdown, but police departments and agencies are rapidly gaining access to government-level surveillance and systems. These allow for extensive research of a person, a group, and much more. Of course, these topics are touchy. These features do spook some people out, but they also help keep everyone safe. Without steady and deep surveillance of the online world, many people and their criminalistic activities would go unchecked, and left to fester and spread, possibly hurting people. These surveillance tactics have also helped stop potential terrorists threats, or shootings as well. But just because some good has stemmed from these doesn't mean its all perfect. If the bad people's devices are being monitored, so are the good guys'. One must be aware, and responsible, with the freedoms that come with owning a device during this era. Everything is monitored, recorded, kept, and spread, whether someone knows it or not. Digital footprints are also a big part of this topic too.
One must  learn to minimize their footprints in order to keep their sensitive or personal information well protected. If not careful, anyone can lose their private information to the digital world, and they'll never get it back. A few different TEDx videos discuss these topics, and show how to secure your online life with steps and precautions. In the end, as the world turns digital, make sure your private information stays away from the internet. Keep guard by your footprints and take care of what you value. Once it's out on the internet, or caught on surveillance, it's never coming back.
